There are several institutions including the government working hard to spread misinformation regarding the use of herbal incense and potpourri. There are countless reasons for this, but it is my opinion that first and foremost… MONEY!!! Laws earn money and the more laws that politicians can create, the more cash that is lined in their pockets. And we all know that MONEY=POWER!

Let’s take the Department of Justice for example… in FY 2011 14% of the DOJ’s budget was the war on drugs. One department that falls under the DOJ is of course the DEA… Now any business owner will tell you, “If you’re going to invest 14% of your yearly budget in anything, THERE HAD BETTER BE A RETURN ON INVESTMENT!!!”

So what better product for the government to sell and obtain a huge return on investment? FEAR!!!         If they were unable to sell fear the impact to taxpayer revenue would be HUGE! The latest fear being sold is the fear of a product that is being sold across the country as Herbal Incense or Exotic Potpourri. 

Now why would these institutions use these tactics to attack certain products? Let’s look at it from their perspective…

The Media: “The American public is getting their information from to many other sources. Our reach is just falling like leaves from a tree. We can’t report “Good News” because American’s have developed the appetite for the drama based on emotions. The mantra of the newsrooms, “If it bleeds it leads!!!”. So we must give them what they want… Rape, Murder, Fatal Accidents, Homes Burning. We have the ability to select the facts we give so lets do just that! Sensationalize everything and sell those Ads… Now who would be buying a lot of Ads right now??? Ahhh… Politicians. What would they like seen covered on the news? If the Politicians are giving us their money then than means they are giving us MORE POWER”

The Law Enforcement Community: “ Whew, the media is doing GREAT selling that good ol’ fear. Can you imagine what would happen if people actually held themselves accountable and remained responsible for their own actions? We would have so much less to do because people watched over themselves. With that fear comes the demand that we increase patrols and that’s just what we need! Each law that gets passed gives us MORE POWER.”

The Politicians: “ I am here to serve you look at what I have done to protect you! So what if many of the bills I have passed have ran our economy to the ground and made certain that the rights given in the constitution are carved down to meaningless scrap. I have created jobs because there are more people needed to make the products needed to enforce these laws designed to protect you. That’s made you feel good right? And if I make you feel good then you will vote for me. Yeah, vote for me and give me MORE POWER!”

Now I don’t want to take away from the various individuals and groups that oppose these thoughts. There are several of these individuals in the groups described above. But the fact is far more are marketing fear rather than truth!

Finally American’s are waking up to the fact that our government was never meant to shield its citizens from their own choices and responsibilities. The attempt to ban Herbal Incense and Exotic Potpourri is just one example of the coming police state!
